These are a couple small abstract linoleum block prints that I made. I hand carved the patterns and printed the linocuts on 8“x10” paper. These open edition prints are titled, Askew I and Currents I, and are available on Etsy.
A while ago, I took a photo of a coral fossil because I thought the patterning was really cool. It was from a museum visit in San Francisco with my kids. I decided to use the pattern as a jumping off point for an abstract linocut print.
Using the reduction print technique, I made this two-color lino print on 11”x14” white paper. I used Cranfield Caligo Safe Wash Relief Ink and printed the yellow layer first, followed by the black. Here’s a short Instagram video of me rolling out ink on the block to test a color.
It’s titled, Grooves, and is a limited edition of four prints. The linocut is available on Etsy.
I finally finished a project I’ve been planning for a while - a print showing a variety of linocut pattern examples. It’s for students in my How to Linocut online class, who can download the print as a PDF. I came up with 25 black and white block printing patterns including grid, circle, line, dot, square and triangle designs.
The monochromatic lino print designs were carved in a block with U- and V-gouges and the photo below shows what I came up with.
