Prints in Progress

I started carving some new Shina Basswood on a recent trip to Northern Michigan. I couldn't ask for a more serene view looking out into the woods and lakeside.

This is my first time working with this Japanese wood and it took awhile getting used to how the material takes cuts from the gouges. I hope it will work well for this mountain scene print - inspired by a memorable trek in Nepal a few years ago. The plan for this print is 3-4 colors, which will require a couple more carved blocks.

Since we have a couple summer trips coming up, I'm trying to squeeze in some printmaking. I finished a second print run of the Texas wanderlust maps, finished sketching out a new Northeast map and am printing a first edition of a new World map (as carved in this photo). A little more work to go before heading to MI.
